Johann Dircks Family in Ukraine

Johann Kornelius Dirck's Passport from Marienwerder was issued on June 9, 1819. He had sold his land, but did not have cash when he arrived in Ukraine (then called New or South Russia). He did have two horses worth 45 Rubles, and other possessions worth 100 Rubles. Urry wrote, "Between 1800 and 1850 land prices in New Russia (includes Molotschna) increased tenfold, from 1.5 rubles per "desiatina" (2.7 acres) to 15 and 20 rubles."

In the Spring of 1820 two hundred fifty-four immigrant families from Marienwerder came to Molotschna.

The Dircks family was one of sixteen that settled the village of Alexanderthal.

The village remains at 47.026583, 36.053483. The village is shown with the adjacent village of Elisabethal in Jakob Barch's 2017 drone flyover video. Johann Cornelius (farm #11) and his brother David's son Cornelius (farm #3) are among the residents shown on this 1820 to 1876 plat map. Other Molotschna village resources are at Willi Vogt's Chortitza website.

These were the early village inhabitants.
