These German speaking Mennonite immigrants from Russia formed Dakota Territory's
Brothersfield Mennonite Brethren congregation in 1877.

The Brothersfield Mennonite Brethren were fond of flashy clothing, a departure from past practice and troubling to many of the immigrants.

No doubt the Seventh-day Adventist proselytizers, already working in these new "Mission Fields at Home", were eager to recruit the new immigrants.

Adventist prosyletizer, and personal secretary to James White, Louis R Conradi was sent to Dakota Territory.

Mennonite Brethren Elder Heinrich Adrian wrote of the resulting conflicts within his Brothersfield congregation.

As the Adventist homesteads became deeded property, about 1885-90, they began to sell, most moving north to Richville, North Dakota. The much-reduced Mennonite Brethren transferred to nearby Silver Lake or moved to Waldheim, Canada where they formed the still-active Bruderfeld congregation.
